Eligibility: This course is open to Y4/5, Y5 or Y5/6 teachers in any infant or primary school.
This one hour, online twilight will discuss the core learning that Y5 pupils need to have in order to be ready for the Y6 maths curriculum. This session will support you with planning your term 6 maths by ensuring that you plan for the gaps in learning as well as offering challenge for your more able.
The twilight starts by looking at fun ways to secure a full understanding of the decimal place value system and rounding. For calculation we will look at how table top games such as using Uno cards, playing cards, dice and dominoes as well as code cracking can be used to support practising written calculation.
We look at how step counting can used to support recall of multiples, factors, squares and primes, scaling up and down as well as decimal multiplication, conversions including time, a quick way to recall fractions and apply it to area and perimeter.
Fraction, decimals and % are key so we will look at how to use more online manipulatives and a triple fraction wall.
We will also consider the events happening in the summer term that you could use as a starting point for maths such as sports day to revisit statistics and measure.
