Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to content published on the Learning and Development Hub. This website www.southglos.gov.uk/learning is run by South Gloucestershire Council.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings.
  • Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen.
  • Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software.
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

How accessible this website is

The website provides options for course booking, holding training records and digital learning materials, listed below:

  • E-learning modules hosted on the Learning and Development Hub.
  • SCORM-based content created with tools such as Articulate Rise or Storyline.
  • Downloadable course documents, such as PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Multimedia resources, including videos and interactive exercises.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • At 400% zoom, certain elements such as the ‘Privacy’ button and footer advertisements may not reflow correctly - appear in the correct place or format.
  • Some older PDFs and Word documents may not be fully accessible to screen reader software.
  • Some older PowerPoints might not have full use of accessibility features such as alternative text.
  • Certain SCORM-based modules may not fully support keyboard-only navigation.
  • Some videos lack captions, transcripts, or audio descriptions.
  • There may be insufficient contrast in some slide decks and quiz feedback messages.
  • Mobile responsiveness and zoom functionality may be limited in legacy modules.

Some content may not meet all accessibility standards due to third-party elements that we have no control over.

Improvements to accessibility

This website uses the Moodle learning platform, which is regularly updated for accessibility. Moodle aims to conform with WCAG 2.1 AA and is designed with accessibility in mind, including responsive design and semantic HTML.

We regularly work to improve the accessibility of the Learning and Development Hub and where accessibility issues are raised, we will prioritise those areas for update where possible.

We are currently:

  • Updating our SCORM content to improve keyboard navigation.
  • Adding transcripts and captions to newly produced videos.
  • Reviewing and updating documents created before September 2020.
  • Training staff and trainers in accessibility best practices for content and material development.
  • Acting on feedback from customers to improve accessibility.
