Eligibility: This course is open to Y2/3, Y3 or Y3/4 teachers in any infant or primary school.
This one hour, online twilight will discuss the core learning that Y3 pupils need to have in order to be ready for the Y4 maths curriculum. This session will support you with planning your term 6 maths by ensuring that you plan for the gaps in learning as well as offering challenge for your more able.
The twilight starts by looking at fun ways to secure a full understanding of the place value system including flexible partitioning numbers. For mental addition and subtraction, we will play games on hundred squares, number lines and Gattegno charts and look at how other table top games such as using Uno cards and dice can be used to support practising written calculation.
We look at how step counting can support recall of both times tables and division facts, commutativity, measures conversions as well a way to finding simple fractions. The twilight will also give ideas for the teaching of time and geometry through the use of cross curricular topics as well as links with stories.
We will also consider the events happening in the summer term that you could use as a starting point for maths such as sports day or a school trip.
