Eligibility: This course is open to Y1 or Y1/2 teachers in any infant or primary school.
This one hour, online twilight will discuss the core learning that Y1 pupils need to have in order to be ready for the Y2 maths curriculum. This session will support you with planning your term 6 maths by ensuring that you plan for the gaps in learning as well as offering challenge for your more able.
The twilight starts by looking at fun ways to secure counting and develop a full understanding of the place value system including number lines and different hundred squares. For numbers bonds to and within 20 we will explore the use of fun table top games using dice, dominoes, playing cards as well as Lego and Uno.
We will then move onto securing counting in 2, 5 and 10s as well as finding simple fractions. The twilight will also give ideas for the teaching of time, money and geometry through the use of visualisation and cross curricular topics as well as links with stories.
We will also consider the events happening in the summer term that you could use as a starting point for maths such as sports day or a school trip.
