• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to all infant, junior and primary schools. The staff meeting format is intended for all relevant teaching and support staff at a school to attend as one.

As this course is in a Staff Meeting format, only one booking is required for your school. Please ensure the booking is in the name of the person who you wish to receive all communication (eg head teacher, maths lead).

This 45-minute online staff meeting will support you as a school to review your teaching of fractions across the school and include how fractions are taught within intervention. It will be a practical hands-on staff meeting where we will explore the progression of fractions from EYFS to Y6, supporting both teacher subject knowledge and pedagogy.

We will do this through the eyes of both online and practical manipulatives such as numicon, Lego and Cuisenaire rods, as well as abstract models and images, the need to use resources that show equal parts and move away from use of cutting to show equal parts or the use of food images.  We look at how more use of these by both the adults in the classrooms and pupils will not only engage pupils but also give them something to hook their learning on. It will support prior learning and links to the teaching of division.
