Eligibility: This course is open to KS2 teachers, writing leaders, English leaders and Senior Leaders form any infant, junior or primary school.
This half day course supports KS2 teachers and writing leaders to understand and recognise GDS writing. We’ll explore how writers 'draw on their reading' to craft effective choices and exercise conscious control over language, structure, and tone. Together, we'll explore nationally benchmarked writing at Y6, and teacher assessed pieces for other year groups, to guide discussion.
Understanding this standard informs the teaching of writing but there are no shortcuts to GDS. Instead, we'll highlight the importance of a holistic approach to the English curriculum and the foundational skills of developing critical readers and writers.
As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:
A deeper understanding of the Greater Depth Standard for writing at the end in Key Stage 2
The role of reading in developing writing skills at the Greater Depth standard, with a focus on how students draw independently on what they have read as models for their own writing.
Effective classroom practices that support writing development over time.
The charge for this course or event is: £75
