Eligibility: This course is open to any KS1 teachers, Y3 teachers and English leaders from any infant, junior and primary schools.
This one day + half day course helps teachers make the most of a book-led curriculum to strengthen reading, writing and spoken language outcomes. Grounded in research on dialogic teaching, reading for pleasure, and experiential approaches including drama and role-play, it explores how integrated text-based learning supports attainment, engagement and creativity.
On day 1, delegates will explore a flexible planning approach through a high-quality text suited to KS1 and Y3. The approach can be adapted to other texts, enabling teachers to create rich, bespoke learning sequences for their own classes.
The follow-up half-day is a collaborative workshop. With guidance from course leaders, delegates will work in small groups to plan a new teaching sequence using a text of their choice, applying the modelled approach.
Across both sessions, the course emphasises creativity, pupil motivation, and the interrelationship between reading and writing. Plans devised during the workshop will be collated into a shared resource pack for all delegates.
As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:
Reading texts critically to identify rich opportunities for learning
Using a range of classroom approaches to develop language and engage children in deeper learning in KS1 and year 3
Planning cohesive English units that integrate reading, writing and speaking to deepen learning across all strands.
The charge for this course or event is: £225
