    Eligibility:  This course is open to Y2 teachers in any infant or primary school

    With both the KS1 maths SATs papers and end of KS1 TAF optional, how, as a Y2 teacher, are you ensuring that your Y2 pupils are fully secure with the core learning and ready for Y3. 

    This two-session, online course will look at how to support all your learners in Y2 to be secure with place value, recall of number bonds, mental and written calculation methods, simple fractions, money and telling the time. All of which are essential to be ready for Y3. There will be time to look at planning and some moderation.

    Session 1:  Securing place value, calculation methods for addition and subtraction, time and money, planning forwards and looking at interventions 

    Session 2:  Securing geometry, statistics, times tables and division, fractions and word problem solving, moderation, use of any assessment data and transition to Y3


    Learning outcomes

    The aims of this course are:

    • To support teaching staff with teaching times tables by ensuring subject knowledge is secure.
    • To share good practice from other schools.
    • To be familiar with the latest research around the teaching and learning of times tables.
    • To consider how best to support parental engagement.
    • To consider how to support SEND pupils.
    • To try out the activities in a supported session.
    • To have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss and share ideas.
