• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to Y1 to Y6 teachers and maths subject leaders in any infant, junior or primary school

This half day, online course will look at the progression in bar modelling and part/part whole from Y1 to Y6.  As part of the session, it will look at how best to introduce your pupils to the different types of bar models, support teacher subject knowledge and give time to explore and ask questions.  We will also review the latest research and blogs on the use of bar modelling in the primary curriculum and as part of test technique.

Drawing bar models in themselves are not easy and can often be a barrier for pupils, partly as they don’t know which model they need to draw.  As colleagues in the primary phase,  we need to rethink how to use manipulatives, especially at KS1 and with our SEND pupils, as part of the bar modelling process and also to support the transition between part/part whole and bar models.
