Eligibility: This course is open to practitioners from any pre-school, day nursery or nursery class in South Gloucestershire only
This 3-part, face-to-face course with gap tasks in between, is designed to build your confidence, skills and knowledge in the SENDCo role and is open to SENDCos who are new to the role, those seeking a refresher in SEND practice, and practitioners who would like to take a more active lead in supporting SEND and inclusive practice across their setting using the Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP) as a key tool to strengthen high-quality universal provision.
The course explores your role and responsibilities, the SEND Code of Practice, and how to effectively implement the graduated approach (Assess, Plan, Do, Review). You will develop practical skills in identifying needs, planning support, setting targets and working in partnership with parents.
Strong emphasis is placed on using a coaching approach to support and empower staff, helping them reflect on and adapt their everyday inclusive practice.
Through a mix of theory and practical sessions, you will embed strategies that promote a consistent, whole-setting approach to inclusion, aligned with the new Ofsted inspection focus on inclusion, ensuring all children – particularly those with SEND, disadvantage or additional needs – can access and benefit from high-quality provision.
