• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire only education professionals working in Early Years, which includes childminders, schools, preschools and nurseries.

This 1-hour, face to face course provides early years practitioners with a practical guide to introducing and running sensory circuits in pre-school and nursery settings.  Delivered by a Children’s Occupational Therapist, this session will discuss sensory processing and explain how short, structured physical activity sequences can help young children regulate their sensory systems and improve their attention.

Participants will explore what sensory circuits are, the benefits for physical and emotional development, and how to create engaging, age-appropriate activities. The course covers the three key stages of a circuit (Alerting, Organising and Calming) and offers step-by-step guidance on setting up and facilitating effective sessions using low-cost, readily available resources. Practical examples will illustrate how to adapt activities for varied space constraints and diverse sensory needs.

This session will be led by Nicola Burr, Occupational Therapist.
