    Course overview

    Eligibility: This course is open to anyone interested in becoming a qualified Forest School Leader

    Through practical outdoor learning and indoor teaching, this 8 ½  Day, face to face course (plus additional self-study) explores the benefits for children as child led learners for lifelong skills, and follow a person-centred approach.

    Entry requirements

    • A passion for being outside is essential
    • Level 2 Qualification or appropriate experience in education, youth work, childcare etc
    • Established link with a proposed client group and potential Forest School Site
    • Before undertaking this training, you are strongly advised to achieve a suitable First Aid Qualification and hold a current DBS certificate prior to starting your own Forest School practice, however, this is the responsibility of the individual setting
    • Suitable clothing and footwear required
    • You must attend all training dates

    What is involved 

    • 6 face-to-face training sessions
    • 2 skill assessment days to complete a portfolio of work
    • 1 half day Tutorial session
    • Ongoing support
    • In setting practical work-based assessment
    • Access to Cambium Sustainable Support Moodle with resources and information
    • The course equates to 70 hours of taught time and requires, on average, a further 110 hours of self-study time from the student

    • Teaching Outdoor Practical Skills

     

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Understand the development of Forest School 
    • Put the Forest School principals and ethos into practice.
    • Understand the co-ordination required for the Forest School Programme.
    • Be able to confidently deliver Forest School sessions
    • Learn and develop a range of practical skills to include fire and tools
    • Complete 5 units to build your portfolio of work.
    • To develop your reflective practice personally and professionally

     

    Charges

    There is a charge of £899 per delegate for this course. 

    If this course has a cost for your setting and a booking is made before 1st September 2026, we will contact you in early September to request payment.  From 1st September 2026 you will be asked to pay via GovPay upon sign up, using a credit or debit card.
