    Course overview

    Eligibility: This course is open to anyone meeting the Entry Requirements given below. 

    This 5 session, face to face course is specifically designed for individuals to achieve their Level 2 Assist at Forest School qualification, developing practical outdoor skills, woodland management expertise, and knowledge of sustainable natural resource use. Participants gain hands-on experience supporting learning and play while effectively assisting a Level 3 Forest School Leader role.

    Entry Requirements:

    • Established link with L3 Forest School Leader
    • Aged 16 years or over
    • Level 1 qualification or equivalent (1 GCSE)
    • Current DBS Check.
    • A suitable First Aid qualification is useful to complement this course (can be completed after training dates)

    During this course you will discover how to support learning, play, and development in a woodland and outdoor green setting, assist with the sustainable management of your site and develop your own practical skills. It covers four Units of Study at Level 2 and looks in more depth at practical skills, using the woodland as a sustainable resource and the theoretical side of planning for learning and play at Forest School.

    You will have a portfolio of work to complete in these areas to support the planning and delivery of a number of sessions.

    Please note this course enables you to assist at Forest Schools, and does not qualify you to run Forest Schools Sessions.

    This course will run alongside the Level 3 Forest Leaders course. Attendance at session 5 is encouraged but not essential.

     

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Support learning, play, and development in woodland and outdoor environments using Forest School principles ethos and approaches.
    • Demonstrate practical outdoor skills including the safe use of tools, natural materials, and woodland resources.
    • Apply principles of sustainability to support the responsible management and conservation of woodland and natural environments.
    • Assist in the planning and delivery of Forest School sessions, contributing effectively to experiences led by a Level 3 Forest School Leader.
    • Reflect on and develop your own Forest School practice, building the confidence, knowledge, and skills required to support others' learning and progression in the outdoors.

     

    Charges

    There is a charge of £450 per delegate for this course. 

    If this course has a cost for your setting and a booking is made before 1st September 2026, we will contact you in early September to request payment.  From 1st September 2026 you will be asked to pay via GovPay upon sign up, using a credit or debit card.
