• Course overview

    Eligibility: This course is open to school based nursery and Reception staff including teachers and teaching assistants, either new or returning to EYFS, including ECTs.

    Across the three sesions we will explore the 17 areas of learning, Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning, the role of the adult, enabling environments, effective practice and observations, assessment and planning.

    We would like this course to be responsive to the needs of all those attending so in addition to any of the agreed focuses, we will also aim to explore any questions, ideas or suggestions delegates may have within each of the sessions.

     

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • EYFS statutory and non-statutory guidance, including recent updates from Ofsted. 
    • Child development relating to all areas of learning. 
    • How to plan a progressive curriculum to meet the needs of your cohorts. 
    • Planning the environment and continuous provision, both indoors and outdoors.  
    • The role of the adult and the use of questioning to support interactions. 
    • OAP (observation, assessment and planning) cycle identifying children’s next steps and supporting their development within their play. 
    • Assessment: baseline, tracking of children across the school year, moderation and the EYFSP. 
    • SEND identification and support strategies, including Transition Support Funding. 
    • Working with families and other professionals. 

     

    Charges

    There is a charge of £180 per delegate for this course. 

    If this course has a cost for your setting and a booking is made before 1st September 2026, we will contact you in early September to request payment.  From 1st September 2026 you will be asked to pay via GovPay upon sign up, using a credit or debit card.
