    Course overview

    Eligibility: This course is open to Early Years Settings, Childminders , Reception and Nursery Class Teachers, SENDCO's, SALT Professionals, Children's Centre staff and Outreach Teams in South Gloucestershire. 

    This 3.5 hour Makaton for Early Years Workshop, provides bespoke vocabulary tailored to those working with babies and young children. 

    It explores how Makaton supports early communication and language development, helping children express themselves and understand others.

    Participants learn key signs and symbols for daily routines, play activities, sing songs and support social interaction, alongside strategies for embedding signing naturally into everyday conversations.

    This hands-on approach ensures practitioners can create inclusive environments where all children have the tools to communicate effectively. 

    Participants will receive a Makaton manual and certificate of attendance.

    Learning outcomes

    This workshop gives you the confidence and tools to:

    • Use Makaton signs and symbols alongside speech during daily routines and activities
    • Support children's understanding and ability to make choices
    • Involve parents, carers and other professionals in consistent communication support
    • Crete inclusive environments where all children can participate and belong.
    • Communication is a human right and Makaton is a tool that can support inclusive practice.

    Charges

    There is a charge of £50 per delegate for this course. 

    Unfortunately, we are experiencing delays in introducing GovPay to the new Learning and Development Hub. Until this issue is resolved, payment of course fees, for all courses taking place in term 1 only, will continue to be processed through the existing arrangements.

    Please note that your place on the course cannot be guaranteed until payment has been received. If payment has not been received at least seven days before the course start date, your booking will be cancelled.

    Please ensure that you book onto the course date to complete your booking by clicking on ‘View and choose course dates’.  If you can no longer attend please cancel your place giving at least 7 days’ notice in order to be able to claim a refund.
