• Course overview

Eligibility:  This course is open to early years educators, including childminders, who work with children aged 0-2 years old

This short webinar explores how babies experience and respond to the sensory world around them, and why understanding sensory needs is an important part of supporting babies’ learning, wellbeing, and development. The session considers how babies process sensory information through everyday experiences, relationships, environments, movement, sound, touch, light, and routines.

Participants are encouraged to reflect on how sensory experiences can affect babies’ emotional regulation, behaviour, communication, engagement, and sense of safety. The webinar explores how some babies may seek sensory input while others may become overwhelmed by it, and how sensitive, responsive practice can help practitioners better understand and support individual needs.

With no expectation to interact, the session offers a relaxed and reflective space to listen and explore ideas individually or as part of a team. Through practical examples, reflective prompts, and links to everyday baby room practice, practitioners are supported to consider how environments, routines, and interactions can be adapted to create calmer, more inclusive, and responsive experiences for babies.

Whether you are new to these idead or looking to deepen existing practice, this webinar offers accessible professional development that supports more attuned and responsive care.
