Compassion has been shown to improve performance, wellbeing, collaboration and innovation in organisations. This two hour interactive webinar introduces council managers and leaders to the core principles and practical tools for compassionate and inclusive leadership in teams.
The session provides space to reflect on how compassionate leadership is not an “add on”, but central to how we work, how we treat each other, and how we deliver excellent services. It aligns directly with our council values—being people focused, inclusive, and collaborative—and reinforces our shared responsibility to lead in ways that respect different perspectives, create psychological safety, and build trust within teams.
Managers will explore the difference between empathy and compassion, the role of emotional intelligence, and why compassionate leadership strengthens accountability and improves outcomes. Through tools, models, conversations, and practical examples, participants will leave equipped to put these ideas into practice immediately—in 1:1s, team meetings, supervision, service planning, and everyday interactions. We also touch on how self-compassion supports resilience, helping leaders sustain wellbeing and lead effectively.
There will be 30 minutes of pre-course reading and we will provide resources so participants can build on relevant themes for them following the session.
As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:
