    Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire Early Years Settings, Childminders , Reception and Nursery Class Teachers and SENCO's, SALT professionals, Children's Centre Staff and Outreach Teams.

    The Makaton for Early Years Workshop provides bespoke vocabulary tailored to those working with babies and young children. It explores how Makaton supports early communication and language development, helping Children express themselves and understand others. Participants learn key signs and symbols for daily routines, play activities, and social interaction, alongside strategies for embedding signing naturally into everyday conversations this hands-on approach ensures practitioners can create inclusive environments where all children have the tools to communicate effectively.  

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course you will:

    • Use Makaton signs and symbols alongside speech during daily routines and activities.
    • Support children's understanding and ability to make choices 
    • Involve Parents, carers and other professionals in consistent communication support.
    • Create inclusive environments where all children can participate and belong.
    • Communication is a human right and Makaton is a tool that can support inclusive practice.

    Charges

    There is a charge of £50 per delegate for this course. 

    When you sign up for this course, for the time being, payment of course fees will be made in the usual way, through the South Gloucestershire Council Website. Go to www.SouthGlos.gov.uk and click on Pay, then Pay Online. Scroll down to Other Payments. You will then see an option to chose Early Years Training. Select your course from the drop down list and follow the instructions to make payment. If payment has not been made 14 days prior to the start date you place will be cancelled.
