• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire Early Years Practitioners working in Pre-Schools and Day Nurseries with children aged 2-4 years.

Our goal in South Gloucestershire is for every early years setting to have a language champion.  We currently have over 60% of our settings with a named language champion including several with multiple language champions.  The four sessions will explore:

Session 1: Communication Rich for All - This session will deepen your knowledge of child development in speech, language and communication focussing on the role of the adult and the impact of high quality interactions and environments.

Session 2: Supporting Neurodivergent Learners in Communication and Language - This session will explore the diverse ways children communicate and how language development may differ for neurodivergent learners.  We'll cover practical tips, including intensive interactions and communication tools.

Session 3: Supporting Duel Language Learners - This session will enhance your knowledge of the language development of dual language learners and provide practical strategies to support children and families learning English as an additional language.

Session 4: The Magic of Story - This interactive session will ignite your creativity offering practical ideas for storytelling and story making in your setting to turn your children into imaginative story tellers.

Attending this course will also open ongoing continued professional development opportunities through our language champion network.
