    Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire School staff working in School-Based Nursery and Reception Classes

    This in-person three part course will enable you to have the skills and knowledge needed to effectively support children within the EYFS.  Across three sessions we will explore the 17 areas of learning, Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning, the role of the adult, enabling environments, effective practice and observations, assessment and planning.  We would like this course to be responsive to the needs of all those attending, so in addition to any of the agreed focuses, we will also aim to explore any questions, ideas or suggestions those attending may have within each of the session.

    When you sign up and book your place, for the time being, payment of the course fees will be made through the South Gloucestershire Council website.  Go to www.southglos.gov.uk and click on Pay, then Pay Online.  Scroll down to Other Payments.  You will then see an option to choose Early Years Training.  Select your course from the drop down list and follow the instructions for payment.  You will receive an automated email confirming your payment.  If payment has not been made 7 days prior to the start date your place will be cancelled. 

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • EYFS statutory and non-statutory guidance, including recent updates from Ofsted.
    • Child development relating to all areas of learning.
    • How to plan a progressive curriculum to meet the needs of your cohorts.
    • Planning the environment and continuous provision, both indoors and outdoors.
    • The role of the adult and the use of questioning to support interactions.
    • OAP cycle identifying children's next steps and supporting their development within their play.
    • Assessment: baseline, tracking of children across the school year, moderation and the EYFSP.
    • SEND identification and support strategies, including Transition Support Funding.
    • Working with families and other professionals.

    Charges

    The cost of this course for South Gloucestershire Schools is £180 per place.
