• Course overview



    Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire education professionals working in the Early Years, which includes Childminders, pre-schools, nurseries and school reception classes.

    This in-person module is intended to equip delegates with an understanding of the importance of play in the Early Years Foundation Stage and how the Three Areas of Difference in autism can impact on play skills.  The module also considers how person-centred planning and making reasonable adjustments can enable autistic children to develop their play skills.   The module aims to increase delegates' understanding of the importance of play in the early years, develop understanding of how autism can impact upon a child's play development, and build awareness of strategies that can be used to support autistic children with their play development.

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will:

    • Understand that autism is a difference not a deficit.
    • Understand how the Three Areas of Difference in autism may impact on the development of play skills.
    • Understand the importance of all adults working together to support the child to develop play skills.
    • Develop knowledge of how to support autistic children to develop play skills.
    • Create a plan to ensure progress in play skills.
