• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to Year 6 teachers from any junior and primary school.

The half-day, face to face, course provides an opportunity for Year 6 teachers to work alongside KS2 LA moderators as they prepare to make final teacher assessment judgements for writing.

The session will support teachers to develop confidence and consistency in assessing writing against the statutory Teacher Assessment Framework, while establishing shared reference points and approaches ahead of the summer assessment period.

Teachers will work collaboratively with moderators to:

    • Examine and discuss DfE standardisation and exemplification materials, exploring how evidence demonstrates the expected and greater depth standards.
    • Consider how individual pieces of writing contribute to judgements about a pupil’s overall body of work, including where further evidence is needed.
    • Share and discuss writing from their own pupils, exploring the evidence available and refining assessment judgements.
    • Establish useful benchmarks and reference points to support the assessment of other pupils back at school.

The session also provides an opportunity to develop a shared understanding of the moderation process and approaches used during external moderation visits.
