• Course overview

    Eligibility: This course is open to headteachers and senior leaders at any junior or primary School.

    This two hour, online training session, fully updated for 2026-27, helps headteachers and senior leaders develop a secure understanding of national expectations for writing at the end of Key Stage 2.

    Using national exemplification materials and benchmarked pupil work, delegates will explore how writing is assessed against the Teacher Assessment Framework and what constitutes a secure judgement.

    Suitable for leaders with little or no prior standardisation training, as well as those wishing to refresh their knowledge, this concise session provides practical insight into writing standards, assessment accuracy and the interpretation of end-of-key-stage outcomes.

     

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Understanding how writing is assessed against the end of KS2 Teacher Assessment Framework.
    • Interpreting national exemplification materials and benchmarked pupil work to recognise and evaluate end-of-key-stage writing standards.
    • Developing greater confidence in understanding, evaluating and discussing writing assessment outcomes within your school.
