• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to internal and external coaches.

Coaching supervision involves reflecting on your work as a coach, typically with a trained supervisor, either one-on-one or in a group setting. This practice is often highlighted as ‘SUPER-vision,’ offering you an enhanced ability to view your work from multiple perspectives. Without this perspective, coaching supervision might be misunderstood as a managerial practice where someone with more authority is 'checking' if you are 'doing it right'. However, the relationship is more egalitarian, with the supervisor and coach (supervisee) sitting 'side by side' in a safe, non-judgemental space, exploring your work as a coach with curiosity. This process provides insights into yourself, your client, and the work you do together. Regular coaching supervision allows coaches to delve into these areas, thereby improving their coaching effectiveness and ensuring the best value for coachees. It is an essential component of a coach’s ongoing learning and development.

We request that members of the coaching and mentoring service attend two group supervision sessions per year. Individual supervision is available on request in addition to the group sessions.

    Learning outcomes

As a result of attending these sessions, you will have an opportunity to reflect on your coaching in the following areas:

    • Developmental: helping you to develop your competence as a coach, putting a focus on your skills, approach and the tools you use.
    • Supportive: providing a safe, non-judgemental space in which you feel listened to and supported as doubts, concerns and insecurities arise.
