    Eligibility

    This course is open to all new School Business Managers in South Gloucestershire maintained schools

    This two hour session, delivered via Microsoft Teams, introduces SBMs to all things finance in schools. The role of School Business Manager (SBM) in finance is crucial for the effective management of school resources. 

    The session will cover an overview of the SBM role in terms of finance, and where that sits in the SLT structure, the roles and responsibilities, a brief overview of how schools are funded, the financial calendar, weekly/monthly/termly tasks, an overview of the schools finance service, where to find additional information – including the financial regulations and why they are important.  We shall also discuss the importance of budgeting and payroll reconciliations 

     

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    •        What an SBMs responsibilities are in terms of finance
    •        Who your School’s finance officer is, what service level your school subscribes to and what is included
    •        Where to find useful information
