• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to early years educators, including childminders, who work with children aged 0-2 years old.

This short webinar explores the importance of working in partnership with families to better understand babies’ lives, experiences, identities, and development. Introducing the concept of Funds of Knowledge, the session considers the rich cultural knowledge, skills, routines, and experiences that babies and their families bring into early years settings. Rooted in a strengths-based approach, the webinar encourages practitioners to recognise, value, and build on these experiences to support babies’ learning, wellbeing, and sense of belonging.
Participants are encouraged to reflect on how everyday practice, environments, interactions, and curriculum choices can either include or unintentionally overlook babies’ lived experiences and family contexts. With no expectation to interact, the webinar offers a relaxed and reflective space to listen and explore ideas individually or as part of a team. Through real-life examples, practical suggestions, and a reflective take-away task, practitioners are supported to consider how respectful and inclusive approaches to family engagement can be embedded into everyday baby room practice.
Whether you are new to these ideas or looking to deepen existing practice, this webinar offers accessible professional development that supports more meaningful relationships and connected learning experiences for babies and their families.
