• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to Council adult social work and occupational therapy staff and managers

This half-day course will enhance your understanding of South Gloucestershire’s Reablement service, promoting best practice in adult social care in line with the Care Act. The aim is to foster independence, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for adults, while reducing the need for long-term care and support.

You will have the opportunity to share the challenges you have encountered with Reablement, such as a lack of understanding among adults and their families about what Reablement is and how it differs from traditional care. We will align Reablement with Care Act compliance, particularly focusing on the local authority’s duties under Section 2.

The session will explore language that aligns with a reablement approach linked to strengths-based practice and identify factors indicating who may benefit from Reablement.

A key part of the session involves working in small groups to critique and draft a best practice Reablement Plan, addressing identified challenges. The final activity will focus on top tips for promoting Reablement to adults and their family and friends.

By the end of the course, you will be better equipped to support adults in achieving greater independence and improved wellbeing through effective Reablement practices.
