Eligibility: This course is open to all Children’s Social Workers

This one day online course addresses the recommendations set out in the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel’s report “I Wanted Them All to Notice” (November 2022). The report highlights how effective joint working—and a stronger understanding of criminal investigations, evidence gathering, video recorded interviewing, and decision making—can improve support for children and families, regardless of the criminal justice outcome. The training explores the Achieving Best Evidence in Criminal Proceedings (2022) guidance, the purpose of video recorded interviews, and the planning, preparation, and assessments carried out by the Police beforehand. This overview also emphasises the essential role of Social Workers within criminal investigations and their wider responsibilities in safeguarding children and families.
