• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire adult social care employees only.

This one-day course acknowledges the vital role that carers play as key partners in Adult Social Care. We will examine key data about carers and their lives, along with some of the common challenges they face. You will have the opportunity to reflect on and share your own lived and professional experiences of caring, as well as learn from the experiences of your colleagues. A South Gloucestershire carer will speak to the group about their experiences and the positive difference that professionals can make.

The session will provide an overview of the local authority's duties and powers under the Care Act 2014, as well as the rights of carers. Information will be shared about South Gloucestershire’s support for carers, including services provided by the Carers’ Support Centre. You will explore how to apply the three conversations approach, strengths-based methods, and legal literacy in your engagement with carers, in line with the council’s Carer Practitioner Guidance. A key theme will be recognising the positive impact that you, as a practitioner, can have in promoting the rights and wellbeing of carers, and consequently, the wellbeing of the adults they care for.
