Eligibility: This course is open to all workers in CSC & PS who work directly with children and young people.
Participants will gain a clear introduction to the trauma informed concept, develop familiarity with the meaning and impact of trauma, and consider the role of therapeutic approaches in meeting the needs of traumatised children. The course will also examine effective intervention techniques that support children, young people, and their caregivers, alongside engagement strategies that promote recovery and strengthen professional practice.
In addition, the day covers emotional processing and the professional self, new thinking around relational and developmental trauma, and tools for supporting emotional regulatory processing. Practical, creative methods in direct work —such as communication, play, and drama-based approaches—will be explored, as well as strategies for working with challenging behaviour. Assessment skills using the TLSWi SHANNARI framework will also be introduced, ensuring participants leave with enhanced confidence and practical tools to enrich their work.
