Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire Council staff who use the Signs of Safety approach.
This interactive training introduces practitioners to the Words and Pictures process within the Signs of Safety framework—a practical and creative tool for explaining professional worries to children in a way they can truly understand.
Participants will learn how to create clarity and build safety by learning how to:
• Create age-appropriate explanations using simple language and stick-figure illustrations.
• Collaborate effectively with parents and carers to promote openness and shared understanding.
By the end of the session, you will be equipped to use Words and Pictures as a foundation for safety and wellbeing planning—helping children make sense of their experiences and supporting families to work towards lasting, positive change.
This is a We Do Session, which means that upon completing this training, there will be an expectation for attendees to go away and complete a Words and Pictures explanation with a family they are supporting and share it back with the Signs of Safety Team.
As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:
· To be able to understand what words and pictures are and why we use them
· To understand the Signs of Safety- writing words and pictures process
· To understand the importance of writing words and pictures with families
· To be able to prepare questions for creating words and pictures with families
· To see examples of good practice of using words and pictures
This course is fully funded. When you sign up you'll be able to book your place for free.
