Eligibility: This course is open to new or returning Y6 teachers from any junior or primary school.
Teaching Y6 is a rewarding challenge—and understanding the end-of-year statutory requirements can help you plan with confidence, not pressure. This full-day course supports teachers to get to grips with everything they need to know about statutory assessment at the end of KS2, including the national tests and the teacher assessment framework for writing.
Ideal for teachers who are new to Y6 or returning after time away, the day offers a clear and supportive overview of the key processes, deadlines, and expectations. Experienced teachers who want a friendly, in-person refresher are also very welcome.
During the day, which includes time for discussion and questions, we’ll explore the test arrangements for reading, maths, and GPS, clarify the teacher assessment requirements for writing, and reflect on lessons learned from previous years. The afternoon is devoted to standardisation training for teacher assessment of writing. This course offers a comprehensive, in-person alternative to separate online briefings and writing standardisation sessions. Delegates are advised to attend either this full-day course aimed at new or returning teachers or the two online sessions (INT442 & INT474) for experienced Y6 teachers, as they will cover the same content .
As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:
Understanding statutory requirements for end of Key Stage 2, including national tests and teacher assessment of writing
Managing key processes, timelines, and expectations for successful test administration and writing teacher assessment
Strengthening subject knowledge and planning through reflection on prior assessment cycles
Building confidence through shared discussion and practical strategies for preparing pupils for end-of-key stage assessment.
The charge for this course or event is: £150
