• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to headteachers and senior leaders from any junior or primary school.

This two hour training session is specifically aimed at senior leaders wanting concise but thorough training to recognise end of KS2 expectations for writing. Headteachers are ultimately accountable for the end of Key Stage 2 writing data – but much of the training around national standards is aimed at Year 6 teachers and demands more time than many school leaders can spare.

This sharply focused session offers a clear, up-to-date overview of how writing is judged at the end of Key Stage 2, with space to explore what that means for teaching and assessment across the whole school.

Designed for headteachers with limited or no prior standardisation training – and equally valuable for those wanting to refresh their knowledge. This session has been updated for 2025-26 and includes new examples and insights. Whether you are new to the framework or simply looking to check your confidence, this course delivers practical clarity in a manageable timeframe.

    Previous delegates appreciated:

    • 'The time to talk through the standards and unpick them.‘
    • ‘The use of modelling and thinking aloud by the trainer throughout the sessions.’
    • ‘The opportunity to hear from [the trainer]; bringing her experience to the session was really valuable.’
