Eligibility: This course is open to Y6 teachers from any junior or primary school

‘Internal moderation is a non-statutory, but vital, process conducted in schools and where possible, with other schools’ (Teacher Assessment Guidance, DfE).

Statutory teacher assessment of writing at the end of Key Stage 2 carries high accountability and requires schools to make clear, evidence-based judgements against national standards. Yet with limited opportunity to interpret the pupil-can statements collaboratively or explore nationally benchmarked examples, teachers find this process uncertain and isolating.

This practical seminar brings Year 6 teachers together from across schools, clusters, and trusts to engage in professional dialogue, explore benchmarked examples, and take part in modelled moderation processes using their own pupils’ writing. Whether your school is due for a moderation visit or not, this session supports end-of-year readiness and helps embed robust, reflective assessment practice.

By working alongside peers and experienced LA moderators, teachers will deepen their understanding of the Teacher Assessment Framework, build confidence in their judgements, and strengthen internal moderation processes back in school.
