A human rights approach in adult social care goes beyond understanding the Human Rights Act 1998. It reflects core social work values—promoting dignity, participation, anti-discriminatory practice, and the social model of disability.
This workshop introduces the principles and practicalities of applying a human rights approach in adult social care. It will explore the current legislative landscape and how human rights have been impacted in the post-pandemic context.
Participants will engage with research and lived experiences to understand the benefits of this approach. Case law examples will illustrate how human rights considerations influence practice. The session will also explore strategies for embedding a human rights approach into everyday work, encouraging reflection and discussion on how to uphold rights-based practice in challenging environments.
