This interactive workshop offers a comprehensive overview of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), a vital welfare benefit for individuals with long-term health conditions or disabilities. Participants will be guided through the full application process, including how to complete the self-assessment form and interpret the PIP ‘activities’ used in scoring. The session also explores how PIP interacts with other benefits such as Universal Credit and provides practical tools to support successful applications. You’ll gain valuable insight into the roles of key professionals involved in the assessment process, including the Health Care Professional and the Decision Maker. We’ll also examine possible assessment outcomes and walk through the appeal process, covering mandatory reconsideration and tribunal hearings.
Led by James Hennefeld, a social worker with the Bristol Autism Spectrum Service and an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), this training draws on over 25 years of experience supporting individuals—particularly those with hidden disabilities—through the complexities of accessing PIP.
