This session is designed for professionals in both Adult and Children’s Social Care to raise awareness of young carers and promote the use of the Young Carers Protocol. It focuses on ensuring young carers are identified, supported, and no longer remain hidden within services.
The training is delivered by three knowledgeable and experienced trainers: Kay, a young ambassador with lived experience as a carer; Joss, Manager of the Young Carers Service at the Carers Support Centre; Kathryn, a social worker in the Connected Care Team, passionate about advocacy for young carers.
Together, they explore key topics including who young carers are, the roles they take on, and the impact of caring—both positive and negative. The session also covers the 'No Wrong Doors' approach, how to identify hidden carers, what constitutes inappropriate caring tasks, and how to assess and support young carers effectively.
Participants will also be introduced to the Young Carers Charter and have access to a full suite of resources and guidance.
As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:
