    Eligibility: This course is open to all social care professionals.

    This one-day interactive course offers comprehensive guidance on the law and best practices related to self-neglect, including hoarding. It is designed for health and social care professionals who work with individuals who self-neglect. The programme covers an overview of self-neglect, key messages from research, and the legal frameworks, including the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA).

    Participants will learn when to assess capacity, understand executive dysfunction and mental capacity, and explore the role of the Court of Protection. The course also addresses the Mental Health Act 1983, the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, and environmental health powers, providing a thorough understanding of their powers and limitations.
