    Eligibility: This course is open to Social Care, Housing and Commissioning staff.

    We recommend that over the course of the year managers identify three people from their team to attend this session and to share their learning with colleagues at the following team meeting.

    Join SARI's comprehensive learning session to delve into equality, inclusion, and cultural awareness, with a particular focus on LGBTQ+ equality. This session will encompass information sharing, engaging discussions, and invaluable insights from individuals with lived experiences. SARI will facilitate interactive conversations designed to help us reflect on our practices and develop actionable recommendations to enhance outcomes for our service and the people we support. This session presents a unique opportunity to address systemic inequalities and participate in dynamic, safe discussions.

    This training will enhance your awareness and confidence in meeting the needs and challenges of LGBTQ+ individuals, whether they are colleagues, personal acquaintances, or those you support professionally. You will gain a deeper understanding of the diverse spectrum of sexual orientation, gender orientation, and identity within LGBTQ+ communities.

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will:

    • Have a better understanding of the impact of the Equality Act and the duties of professionals towards LGBTQ+ individuals.
    • Be aware of local data relating to LGBTQ+ equality, disproportionality, and experiences.
    • Learn strategies to adjust work practices to empower LGBTQ+ individuals and challenge oppressive systems and behaviours.
    • Improve your ability to have confident and respectful conversations about gender identity and sexual orientation to understand preferences and views.
    • Develop best practice in the use of person-centred language in relation to what is considered correct versus what the person prefers to use.
    • Ensure person centred and strengths-based approaches when delivering support to LGBTQ+ individuals by considering intersectionality.
    • Be introduced to research, guidance, and local and national support and advocacy services.
