    Eligibility: This course is open to South Gloucestershire Council employees only.

    Are you wondering whether moving into management is the right career move for you? This engaging and interactive blended course gives you an insight into what’s involved in management and the steps you can take to prepare yourself to apply for future management roles. It includes e-modules, self-study time and face-to-face sessions where you will have an opportunity to learn about management skills through practical activities, discussion and self-reflection.

    The topics we will cover include:

    • What’s expected of managers in all sectors?
    • What skills and experience do managers need to be effective?
    • Your motivations for going into management and what you hope to gain.
    • The benefits of coaching and mentoring and how to gain experience of this.
    • Presentation skills and communication that you could use in managing team meetings, or training small groups.
    • Personal development as an aspiring manager so when the next management role becomes available, you’re ready.
    • The course will help you to build the foundation knowledge to support your next career steps.

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will:

    • Have a better understanding of whether a management role is appealing to you and why.
    • Understand managerial roles and responsibilities.
    • Develop a career advancement plan.
    • Use e-modules and other open-access resources to build essential management knowledge and skills.
    • Use a learning log to reflect and apply learning.
