    Eligibility: This course is open to foster carers.

    This course is designed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills to ensure the safety and well-being of children in their care. We will explore the concept of safer caring and how to promote safe practices for those caring for children in their homes. The course will cover various aspects of safer caring, including risk assessment, creating a safe environment, and understanding the unique needs of foster children. Please be aware that by booking onto this course, you consent to your email address being shared with South Gloucestershire Council, so that we can send information and potentially MS Teams invitations to you. The duration of this session is likely to be four hours, with an hour break in the middle and short breaks after each hour. This will be confirmed nearer the time. Join us for this comprehensive training to enhance your safer caring practices and ensure a secure and nurturing environment for foster children.

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Comprehend the concepts of hazards, risks, and vulnerability.
    • Identify the hazards associated with caring for traumatised children and young people.
    • Evaluate risks to the child, the carers, and the agency.
    • Develop strategies to manage these risks and reduce vulnerability.
    • Consider and apply safer caring practices within your own household.
    • TSDS Standards covered: TSDS 3.1, 3.2, 3.4, 3.5, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5.
