    This course will guide you through a range of topics related to fire safety, including: • Understanding fire risks: Learn about common fire hazards in the home and how to identify them. • Preventive measures: Discover practical steps to prevent fires, including safe cooking practices, proper use of electrical appliances, and the importance of smoke alarms. • Emergency preparedness: Develop an emergency plan tailored to your home and family. Learn how to conduct fire drills and ensure everyone knows what to do in case of a fire. • Fire safety equipment: Get familiar with fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and escape ladders, and learn how to use them effectively. This training provides foster carers with the confidence and knowledge to create a safe living environment. By the end of the course, participants will be well-prepared to prevent and respond to fire emergencies, ensuring the safety of everyone in their care.     Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Maintain smoke alarms to make sure they function correctly.
    • Know what actions to take in the event of a fire.
    • Identify other equipment to consider for fire safety, such as candles and extension leads.
    • Recognise when to call 999 and how to communicate effectively during an emergency.
    • Learn strategies to prevent common household fires.
    • Develop and plan an effective escape route for your home.
    • Implement a bedtime checklist to ensure all safety measures are in place before going to bed.
