    Eligibility: This course is open to foster carers, adopters and family link carers.

    This mandatory training course meets Core Skill One and is essential for all foster carers. First aid knowledge is crucial as it equips foster carers to handle emergencies and ensure the safety of children in their care. Foster children may have unique health needs or come from backgrounds where they haven't received consistent medical attention. Participants will gain the skills to respond effectively to injuries, illnesses, and urgent situations, providing immediate care until professional help arrives. This training helps prevent minor issues from escalating into major problems. Foster children will feel reassured knowing they are in capable hands. Additionally, the course empowers foster carers with the confidence and skills needed to manage unexpected health crises, making their caregiving environment safer and more secure. First aid training is an essential component of fostering, contributing significantly to the well-being and stability of the children. By being trained in first aid, foster carers can provide a safer and more secure environment, ensuring the children feel protected and cared for.

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Effectively handle choking and resuscitation for infants and children.
    • Respond appropriately to choking incidents in adults.
    • Conduct resuscitation techniques for adults.
    • Apply methods to manage and control severe bleeding.
    • Provide care for individuals who are unconscious.
    • Properly use tourniquets in emergency situations.
    • Confidently use defibrillators to assist in cardiac emergencies.
