    Course overview

    Eligibility: This Course is open to foster carers

    We understand that allegations can feel worrying and may raise questions or misunderstandings about what happens next. This informal session gives foster carers an opportunity to meet the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) and learn more about their role and responsibilities.
    The session will provide a clear overview of the allegations process, including what happens when a concern is raised, how decisions are made and what support is available to foster carers. It will also explore common myths and misconceptions, helping carers feel more informed, confident and reassured.
    There will be opportunities to ask general questions throughout in a supportive and non-judgemental setting. The session is suitable for both new and experienced carers, whether you have questions or simply want a better understanding of the process.
    Please note that, because of confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities, the LADO cannot discuss live, ongoing or identifiable cases. However, general questions about the process, decision-making, thresholds and good practice are welcome. We encourage all carers to attend this informative Q&A session and hear directly from the LADO.
     

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Describe what happens when an allegation or concern is raised.
    • Recognise how decisions are made and what support is available to foster carers.
    • Identify common myths and misconceptions about the allegations process.
    • Understand why live, ongoing or identifiable cases cannot be discussed.
    • Know which general questions can be raised with the LADO.
