    Eligibility: This course is open to Foster Carers, Kinship Carers and Adopters

    Rebecca Carr-Hopkins

    Rebecca qualified as a social worker in 1996 and has over thirty years' experience of working with children and families. Since starting her private practice in 2007, Rebecca has trained extensively in the field of child and adult attachment. She has been trained in all of the methods for assessing attachment tied to the Dynamic Maturational Model (DMM) of Attachment and Adaptation and is authorised to teach the Infant CARE-Index, the Strange Situation Procedure (SSP-DMM) and Preschool Assessment of Attachment, the School-age Assessment of Attachment and the Adult Attachment Interview. She is also an accredited Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) guider, supervisor and trainer and is a clinical supervisor for practitioners working across health and social care services

    This experiential workshop, delivered by Rebecca will provide carers with a reflective space to explore the challenges of caring for children who have experienced trauma with a focus on how to help regulate themselves and the children they care for.

     

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Understand how trauma can affect children’s emotional regulation, behaviour and relationships.
    • Reflect on the impact of caring for children who have experienced trauma, including the importance of their own self-regulation.
    • Identify practical strategies to support both their own regulation and that of the children they care for.
    • Use reflective thinking to respond to children’s distress and challenging behaviour with greater confidence and empathy.
