• Course overview



    Eligibility: This course is for Social Workers who fulfil specific eligibility requirements.

    This is the second day of our comprehensive four-day course designed for Trainee Practice Educators. To attend this course, you must have approval to provide a placement and confirmation that you are working at the Experienced level of the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF). Additionally, you must be post-qualified for at least two years from the start of the placement.

    Day two focus: supervision and adult learning.

    On the second day of this four-day course, we will identify the key elements of good supervision and explore how it may differ for social work learners. This will be achieved through the use of various models, methods, and tools, as well as a practical student scenario.

    We will also examine what facilitates adult learning, supported by relevant adult learning theories. This day is closely aligned with the Domain B requirements of the BASW Practice Education Professional Standards (PEPS).

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will have knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • How to make use of your experience and practitioner expertise to progress learning.
    • How to use a range of learning methods including teaching and role modelling to extend development.
    • How to help social work learners to understand their own learning processes and to develop models, methods and strategies for critical reflection and analysis.
    • How to encourage and develop the ability for self-evaluation.
    • How to make sound and reasoned judgements about the level of work in line with learning and work goals.
    • Understand the need for critical engagement with learning theory.
    • Domain B requirements of BASW Practice Education Professional Standards.
