This course, led by experts from the Avon & Wiltshire Partnership, supports professionals working with autistic adults. It covers key assessment issues, effective assessment techniques, and best practices in service provision. This course is essential for anyone involved in assessing and supporting autistic adults, offering valuable insights and practical strategies.
Assessment issues
Participants will reflect on past assessments, understand unmet needs under the Care Act 2014, and learn why some 'able' adults are overlooked. The course highlights the importance of thorough assessments, especially for those with mental health issues like anxiety and low mood. It also addresses assessment challenges, the impact on families, and working with parents. Relevant laws, including the Autism Act and Mental Health Act, will be discussed.
Effective assessment techniques
The course guides participants on preparing for assessments, gathering information, and managing time. It emphasises safety, clarity, empathy, and low arousal. Strategies for structuring visits, building rapport, and assessing sensory needs are also covered.
Best practices in service provision
Participants will learn to work with care providers, set up placements, and evaluate services. The course also discusses long-term support methods.
