    Eligibility: This course is open to foster carers

    This training session provides a comprehensive overview of child exploitation in its various forms, including sexual abuse, criminal exploitation, trafficking, county lines activity, and online grooming. Participants will gain a clear understanding of what constitutes exploitation and how perpetrators manipulate and abuse vulnerable young people. The session will explore key risk indicators and the vulnerabilities that increase a child’s likelihood of being targeted. Attendees will learn to interpret young people’s behaviours in the context of coercion and control, and how language can be used positively to support safeguarding efforts. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to identify concerns, respond appropriately, and take effective safeguarding steps when exploitation is suspected. This training is essential for anyone working with or supporting children and young people.

    Learning outcomes

    As a result of this course, you will be enabled to:

    • Define child exploitation in its various forms and understand how it impacts young people.
    • Identify key risk indicators and vulnerabilities that may suggest a child is at risk of exploitation.
    • Recognise and interpret behaviours of young people within the context of coercion and abuse.
    • Know the safeguarding actions to take when exploitation is suspected, including how to respond and report concerns.
