• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to social workers on the ASYE programme only.

This course examines how perceptions of fatherhood shape family relationships and influence professional practice. Designed for social workers on the ASYE programme, it offers a research-informed exploration of effective engagement with fathers in both family support and child protection contexts. Participants will consider and discuss different models of fatherhood and how these impact their work, while developing strategies to involve fathers as part of a whole-family approach. The course also focuses on assessing fathers’ strengths and risks, and their role in safety planning and monitoring for children in need of protection. Key safeguarding concerns, including domestic abuse and infant head trauma, are addressed to support confident, inclusive, and reflective practice.
