• Course overview

Eligibility: This course is open to everyone from any organisation working with children and families in South Gloucestershire.

During this one-day course, learners will explore various aspects of safeguarding, including the ways in which some children can be harmed and the relevant laws and statutory guidance. We will cover South Gloucestershire's policies and procedures, ensuring children receive the right help at the right time, and identifying risk factors.

The course will also address digital safeguarding, the range of targeted and specialist services available, and how to make effective referrals. Participants will learn about the seven golden rules of information sharing and gain a greater awareness of the additional vulnerabilities faced by looked-after children and those with disabilities.

We will discuss the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on children and their families, local procedures and interagency arrangements for safeguarding, and the role of early help and early help assessments. The course will emphasise the roles and responsibilities we all have in safeguarding children and young people, appropriate information sharing, and responding to allegations.

Please note that the content of this course will include references to sensitive topics and local and national child safeguarding practice reviews.
